The Last Kingdom is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories. The books follow Uhtred of Bebbanburg from a boy taken from his birthright and raised by Vikings, later fighting for King Alfred the Great and his son Edward. Shield walls, blood, revenge and the forging of many Kingdoms into one nation, a dream of Alfred’s called England.

Season 1, Episode 1
Saxon boy Uhtred is seized by a Danish warlord. Years later he embarks on a quest of revenge to reclaim his inheritance and discover who he is – Saxon or Viking.

Season 1, Episode 2
No longer Saxon or Dane, Uhtred and best friend Brida are fugitives on the run from Uhtred’s uncle, Aelfric. Finding himself blamed for a wedding massacre, Uhtred pleads his innocence to the great Viking warlord Ubba, but is not believed. His only choice is to return to his Saxon roots and approach the soon-to-be king, Alfred.

Season 1, Episode 3
Uhtred wins the protection of Alfred, but his relationship with Brida is jeopardized.

Season 1, Episode 4
A cunning tactical play by King Alfred keeps Uhtred close at heel, but it’s not long before Uhtred realizes he’s been tricked and his relationship with the King hits a new low. King Alfred then invites Uhtred to peace talks only to use him as a pawn, handing Uhtred over as a hostage to the Danes. However, the turn of events reunites Uhtred with his Danish brother Ragnar the Younger. When the tides turn once again and threaten Uhtred’s life, Ragnar proves to be a true ally and, quite possibly, Uhtred’s saving grace. Meanwhile, a great battle looms over Wessex.

Season 1, Episode 5
Uhtred volunteers to attack Danish ships, but challenges Ubba in the process as the Danes threaten Wessex.

Season 1 ,Episode 6
Uhtred and Leofric lead a raiding party to Cornwall, on a mission for wealth and independence. The party becomes mercenaries for a Cornish King and Uhtred attracts the attention of a beautiful sorceress queen named Isuelt. Iseult’s charms and the promise of silver make Uhtred feel like he finally has the chance of a new start. However, when he returns to Wessex he is faced with the wrath of King Alfred and a judgment that leaves both his life and the life of his best friend Leofric hanging in the balance.

Season 1 ,Episode 7

Uhtred and Leofric must face off against each other in a death match—a consequence of their actions in Cornwall. But there are ominous signs of a greater battle to come… The Danes launch an invasion on Wessex, pouring through the streets and killing all in their path. Running for their lives in an escape to find safety, a bond is finally struck between Uhtred and King Alfred; the two men recognize they must now stand and fight together if Wessex is to be reclaimed. Moreover, Uhtred realizes that his best chance of regaining Bebbanburg rests on Alfred’s return to the throne.

The future of England is at stake and the King refuses to hide—he is a man on a mission. Leaving the cover of the marshes, a united King Alfred and Uhtred must get word to Saxon forces; they make a rallying call to all Saxon armies to converge at Egbert’s Stone to fight a decisive
