A high school girl named Kei joins a karate dojo and makes short work of all the boys she faces due to her vastly superior athletic abilities. Kei quickly decides she deserves her black belt. However, her sensei Matsumura denies her. Brash and impatient, Kei joins a rival group of fighters called the Destroyers, which don’t have strict guidelines like Matsumura, and even encourage their members to use their fighting abilities to earn quick cash. Unfortunately the group’s leader is recruiting fighters to attack Matsumura. When Kei objects to the plan she gets kidnapped and it’s up to Matsumura to defend his student.
Alfred Blalock (1899-1964), a cardiologist (therefore, self-confident to the point of arrogance), leaves Vanderbilt for Johns Hopkins taking with him his lab technician, Vivien Thomas (1910-1985). Thomas, an African-American without a college degree, is a gifted mechanic and tool-maker with hands splendidly adept at surgery. In 1941, Blalock and Thomas take on the challenge of blue babies and invent bypass surgery. After trials on dogs, their first patient is baby Eileen, sure to die without the surgery. In defiance of custom and Jim Crow, Blalock brings Thomas into the surgery to advise him, but when Life Magazine and kudos come, Thomas is excluded. Will he receive his due?

A wandering soldier finds a robot head in the post-apocalyptic desert. He brings it back to his girlfriend for use in one of her sculptures. He investigates the origin of the head, and discovers it’s from the Mark 13 project, canceled because of unreliability. His girlfriend, nay, society at large become endangered when the robot puts itself back together using the parts she has for her sculptures.
