Finally, after almost half a decade of serious dues-paying, Earth, Wind & Fire took off commercially with its fifth album, Open Our Eyes. EWF had been delivering great albums since 1971, but it wasn’t until 1974 that the public proved genuinely receptive to Maurice White’s mystical and unorthodox take on soul and funk. No longer would EWF enjoy only a small cult following. Thanks to treasures like “Kalimba Song,” the gritty funk smoker “Mighty Mighty,” and the unforgettable “Devotion,” Open Our Eyes became EWF’s first gold album and went to the top of the R&B charts. It’s also interesting to note that with this album, singer Jessica Cleaves was gone, resulting in the first time EWF had an all-male lineup. The 2001 CD reissue adds four previously unreleased bonus tracks, one of them a “Walkin’ in N’awlins” mix of “Fair But So Uncool,” though the other three songs did not appear on the original album in an alternate form.

Snoop Dogg’s new album is BUSH, available May 12th. The album is entirely produced by friend, fellow-innovator, and Grammy Award-winner Pharrell Williams, and is the latest offering from one of music’s most prolific and revered trendsetters.

Cherub – Nashville’s own risqué, electro-pop duo consisting of Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber release their highly-anticipated major label debut album, Year Of The Caprese. The pair have been heating up radio with their infectious viral hit “Doses & Mimosas.” Kelley explains the inspiration behind the track’s memorable hook: “We were buying champagne in the Beachside Liquor Store in Gulf Shores, Alabama and there was this dude in his mid-40′s behind the counter. I’ll never forget what he said, I remember the days of ‘pagne and caine!’” But “Doses & Mimosas” isn t the only hit you ll be hearing on their debut. Year Of The Caprese proves to be Cherub’s boldest alignment of their diverse musical interests ranging from brash rock to playful pop to seductive R&B, highlighting Kelley’s clever songcraft and Huber s incredible live production. Together, the two who met while pursuing music business degrees at Middle Tennessee State, have written hooky electro-pop gems that lyrically capture the outrageous impulses of their youth, while their studio expertise results in grooves so alluring, even your parents can dance to them.
