Anthology show featuring darkly comic tales, each of which takes place inside a building or apartment marked number nine. Whether in a grand country house where an innocent game leads to chilling revelations, a primary school teacher’s one-bedroom flat, or a historic village in the grip of a witch hunt, the buildings are the sites of tales with unexpected twists that, in many cases, take a turn for the horrific. All of the stories come from the minds of writers Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, who also star in some episodes.

Trevor and Julia always want to make Christmas really special for their family but this year, with money so tight, things aren’t going to be easy. As each door of the advent calendar opens, everyone will have to do their bit to make Christmas happen.

Season 5, Episode 04 – “Misdirection”
Ordinarily, Hector and Tabitha never go out as they have to look after their disabled elder brother. But tonight’s event is so special that they are going to need a carer. And Katy’s not going to turn down £88, is she?

Season 5, Episode 05 – “Thinking Out Loud”
Seven disparate characters share their stories with a camera, their fates inevitably, inextricably and unknowingly set for a head-on collision. Maxine Peake, Phil Davis, Sandra Gayer and Ioanna Kimbook guest star in an episode directed by Steve Pemberton.
