Started in 1989 by the prolific Wong Jing, the God of Gamblers series has been continuing to entertain audiences for the past 27 years. Starring some of the biggest stars in Hong Kong cinema, Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Stephen Chow, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Ng Man Tat, Leon Lai, Nick Cheung, Donnie Yen and a lot more, each film usually has something for most Hong Kong cinema fans. Incorporating sequels, spinoffs, unofficial spinoffs and even spinoffs of spinoffs, the God of Gamblers series is truly one of a kind.

GOD OF GAMBLERS
Do San (the God of gamblers) is a legendary gambler helped by his supernatural abilities. He undertakes to help a friend pay a debt by beating his friend’s advisory at the card table. Despite being assigned a bodyguard Do San has a freak accident which leaves him with partial memory loss and at a mental stage of a child. The small time hustler Knife, his side-kick and his girl friend, being responsible for the accident takes care of the retarded Do San. After some time they discover that he has not lost all of his powers and takes him on a round at the local gambling halls. After being chased by both Knife’s loan-shark and enemies closer to the home of Do San, a final showdown at the card tables may take place.

GOD OF GAMBLERS II – THE RETURN
Ko Chun, the God of Gamblers, returns living a wealthy life, but a rival appears, killing the God of Gamblers pregnant wife and soon to be son. Before dying, his wife tells him not to gamble for one year and not to reveal his identity as the God of Gamblers. A year almost passes, and the gambler lives a forgiving life, until the man who kills his wife appears, taking revenge into his own hands.

GOD OF GAMBLERS III – BACK TO SHANGHAI
This film focuses on the disciple of the God of Gamblers, Chow Sing Cho, also known as the “Saint of Gamblers”. A group of people with telekinetic powers matching his attack him and his uncle, accidentally sending him to the year 1937, in Shanghai. This is a year crucial in Sing’s family history, and he must use his powers play a part that has irrevocable effects on his present and future, while trying to find a way back to home, the year 1991.
