Toby helps Kate relax in the midst of her fervent quest to lose weight; and Beth questions the motives of Randall’s biological father, as Randall adjusts to having his dad in his life. Meanwhile, Rebecca and Jack begin to feel distant from one another; and Kevin faces the consequences of quitting his job.

Season 01, Episode 03 – “Kyle”
Rebecca encounters Randall’s biological father when she makes a surprise visit to her son’s home; Kevin decides to move to NYC to pursue a job on Broadway; and Toby plans a special day for Kate. In the past, Rebecca and Jack take their new babies home from the hospital and struggle to cope with the loss of a child.

Season 01, Episode 04 – “The Pool”
Rebecca and Jake take the kids to a community pool, where they realize each child’s unique struggles. In the future, Kevin auditions for a Broadway play; Toby runs into his ex-wife while on a date with Kate; and William’s reported as a loiterer in Randall’s predominantly white neighborhood, exposing deep-seated racial tensions.

Season 01, Episode 05 – “The Game Plan”
Rebecca and Jack argue about starting a family; and the family’s history of Pittsburgh Steelers fandom is revealed. In the future, Kevin notices parallels between a character and his own life; and Beth and Randall encounter an unexpected turn of events.

Season 01, Episode 06 – “Career Days”
Kate interviews for a new job that seems perfect, but there’s a catch; Randall has doubts about his career choice; and Kevin and Olivia’s relationship takes a turn. In the past, Rebecca and Jack feel conflicted after Randall tests as a gifted child.

Season 01, Episode 07 – “The Best Washing Machine in the Whole World”
Randall and Kevin’s rocky relationship is explained; William unexpectedly reveals a secret to Beth; and Kate feels conflicted after Toby strays from his diet regimen. Elsewhere, Rebecca and Jack acknowledge the growing distance between them.

Season 01, Episode 08 – “Pilgrim Rick”
Jack, Rebecca and the kids take an unexpected detour on their way to Thanksgiving dinner at Rebecca’s parent’s house. In the future, Kate makes two drastic decisions; Kevin invites Olivia to Randall’s house for Thanksgiving; and Randall’s heartbroken after learning a lifelong secret his mother kept from him.

Season 01, Episode 09 – “The Trip”
Kate, Kevin and Randall visit their family’s cabin after a chaotic Thanksgiving dinner; and a wedge is driven between Kate and Kevin after Olivia makes a harsh comment. In the past, a 9-year-old Randall reveals he’s been searching for his birth parents.

Season 01, Episode 10 – “Last Christmas”
The Pearsons discover Dr. K alone at the hospital on Christmas Eve after Kate’s afflicted with appendicitis. In the present, Kevin celebrates Hanukkah with Olivia; Kate pursues her big surgery; and someone from William’s past resurfaces.

Season 01, Episode 11 – “The Right Thing to Do”
Kate struggles to cope during the aftermath of Toby’s heart attack; William and Jesse grow closer, forcing Randall to become accustomed to their relationship; and Olivia unexpectedly resurfaces. In the past, Jack and Rebecca seek an affordable home in light of the news they’ll be having triplets.

Toby throws a wrench in Kate’s weight loss journey. Randall struggles to accept his father’s deteriorating health. Miguel and Shelly break some devastating news to Jack and Rebecca, which makes them worry about their own relationship. Rebecca receives an amazing work opportunity. Kevin examines his romantic past.

Season 01, Episode 15 – “Jack Pearson’s Son”
Kevin stresses about the premiere of his play and receives support from an unexpected source; Randall struggles under the pressure of both his work and ailing father; Rebecca and Jack’s Valentine’s Day doesn’t go as planned; and Toby and Kate learn each other’s secrets.

Season 01, Episode 16 – “Memphis”
Randall and William take a road trip to Memphis, where Randall learns about his biological father’s past.

Season 01, Episode 18 – “Moonshadow”
In the first-season finale, Jack heads to Cleveland to make things right with Rebecca on the night of her first big gig with the band. Then, Randall, Kate and Kevin make big decisions about their futures.
