One of the best gem software you will ever find, and it’s a shame I can’t use it! :( My MAC is a PowerPC so not supported, only INTEL Macs!

    Hi Sledge,

Thanks for the post. Can I do a fresh install of this on a Windows-based PC or laptop? Can I also use this to create a dual boot system on the same PC? How is this different from IATKOS? Could you please provide a Youtube tutorial or probably a webpage link depicting the complexities of installing a MacOSX software? Sorry for asking too much, I am not an expert when it comes to this.
Please post your reply here so everyone can benefit. THANK YOU!

  6. 6.sledge Says:

this is only for intel based apple desktops and laptops, this version is not for pc. thanks.

  7. 7.bogart Says:

if you want MacOSX for PC, you might wanna Google for “iDeneb”. it is a hack of the OSX for PC

  8. 8.g Says:

Sledge, thanks for the effort. You made an image of the volume instead of the device. The result is an image which if burned to a DVD won’t boot. The way to tell is to mount the image using disk utility and look at the partition tab. If it says (in the lower right) “Partition Map Scheme : No partition map”, it’s not bootable. If it says “Partition Map Scheme : Apple Partition Map” then it will be. The image as it is can still be used if it is copied to a bootable device such as hard disk or USB memory stick that has been properly partitioned as in the above instructions.

  9. 9.am Says:

cool dude. will try to install!

  10. 10.solidsnake Says:

Sledge I have a question.. here can I get this “Disk Utility” and other requirements to install this OS?.. Thanks..

  11. 11.solidsnake Says:

Ops sorry.. what I mean is that where can I get this “Disk Utility” and other requirements to install this OS?…

  12. 12.sledge Says:

the “Disk Utility” is included in the DVD. I tested this myself and it’s working properly. I’m using it now..

  13. 13.Statii Says:

Is it possible to burn this using transmac / set the dvd bootable? I dont have a Mac to work from.

  14. 14.sledge Says:

    @statii

    I use ultra iso.

  15. 15.Statii Says:

Cheers, was just wondering because of g’s post. 2 hours left on dl. Will post back with results. ty

  16. 16.Statii Says:

Heya, ive tried loads of combo’s / ways of burning this on windows (transmac ultra iso etc.) Havent had any luck getting it to boot. How did you do it?

  17. 17.MacNWinUser Says:

I’ve downloaded this the day after its release and I have to say be ready for a lot of your old programs not being able to work with it. Developers haven’t caught up with snow leopard and you will be sadly disappointed to see some of your favorites not working. Most notably are the ones that are pref based which go in your system preferences area. Plus if you got most of your other apps for free then you are going to be hard pressed to find the latest and greatest.

The other thing that has been buggy is Itunes and the apple remote or any IR remote. What I mean is Itunes wants to start when you start front row or VLC or mplayer or anything that the apple remote use to control without itunes interfering. There is two workarounds, but the easiest one which doesn’t mess with your config is just make sure you have quicktime player loaded before you use your remote. Speaking of quicktime, I believe the removed some features from the web plugin.

I’m kind of regretting for upgrading and if I could do it all over again then I’d hold off on this for half a year or a year before I do it. Think of it as Vista when it first came out with some bugs and compatibility issues. Well this is about the same thing. I know a die hard mac fan will hate me for comparing it like that, but let’s get real. Both companies are known to release software earlier than it needs to be and most companies do that. They want their money and they will work out the bugs later. Plus Mac OS has never been too nice with backwards compatibility.

So be forewarned and download it if you must, but wait on installing it. Leopard worked fine and it is easier to find free stuff for it than Snow Leopard. Wait a bit for them to get a few updates in and developers to catch up and then update. There hasn’t been that significant of an update change where you need to get this.

  18. 18.g Says:

@Statii, you can’t. The DVD image is missing the boot information. The way around it is to create a bootable partition on a USB key or hard drive, copy the files from the image to it and boot that.

I have not tried them, but the instructions above for making a bootable USB key or disk seem to be complete.

  19. 19.pepolis Says:

Guys, guys…!!! is cheap and is Mac. Why dont buy it? Help Mac Community. This is not virusbadwindowsemulatesoftware-hardware word.

    If so, please reupload.

    Thanks a lot.

    all links are ok..

  23. 23.jalmiburung Says:

just like g says, to burn it to dvd you should first make an image (DVD DL with Disk Utility), then unmount it. Check its partition info (e.g. /dev/disk4). Then mount snow leopard dvd install. Check its partition also (e.g. /dev/disk3s3). Then unmount both. Using terminal use this command: dd if=/dev/disk3s3 of=/dev/disk4
The Snow Leopard Image then will be ready to burn.

  24. 24.kevin sharkey Says:

Hi everyone, If you are trying to install onto a Mac with Intel processor then i find that if you don’t have a DL blank disc handy then, .. install the image onto an external hard drive by using Disk Utility (Inside utilities folder within Applications folder ) and selecting ” Restore “… you drag the image file into ” Source” field and drag external hard drive icon from left hand side window into ” Destination ” field then tick ” erase destination ” …. This will only work if you have an IntelMac because Macs with an older PowerPC processor ( Emacs and the likes) can’t boot up from an External Drive…. Sorry if I bored everyone…haha

  25. 25.radeville Says:

bro kevin.. means if i burn this image on to DL Disk.. can i directly boot from it without using previous macosx to create bootable pendrive or using partition to install.. tqs

  26. 26.kevin sharkey Says:

I suppose you could install it onto a pendrive using the restore feature in disk utility as long as your pendrive is obviously large enough to hold the snow leopard image…. only problem with pendrive’s is the access time (read/write) are slower than if you used an external or a partitoned hard drive… if you do have another internal drive, then put your SL image onto that via restore… works a treat..

  27. 27.Kang Says:

External Hard Drive will be repartition and my existing data will lost?
