Aug 10 | Windows XP SP3 Lite Netbook Edition (160Mb Only) |

This edition of windows is slipstreamed with service pack 3, and is perfect for low powered laptops, old desktops and netbooks. It is only 185mb, and when I tested it in Vmware, it took 11 mins to install. It uses 85Mb of ram on first bootup, and on face value, the normal things seem to be there e.g. games, paint, calculator etc. Obviously the upgrade feature has been removed from this cd, so you have to do a clean install.

hi,
can any one tell how to install this edition, i have burned the iso image using iso software but it is not working

Burn to a CD ? a true netbook doesn’t have a cd drive, and should be booted by usb, i’ll try this image to see if all goes fine in that scenario
Either way thnx.

Hi, Max. Does this come with common netbook drivers integrated into the installation or should I backup my drivers and use them after the install? My netbook (HP Mini 110) came with Windows 7 Starter and it is beginning to get really slow and clunky so I thought I’d switch over to the more reliable Windows XP.
Thanks for your help,
Rahul.

Hi Rahul, im sorry the drivers have to be downloaded from their respective websites, print or make a list of all your drivers before installing this OS, thank you very much

Will there be any discrepancy because I’m downgrading from Windows 7 Starter and the drivers I have right now were built for Windows 7?
Thank you very much for your fast replies and help!

Hi Rahul, you cannot downgrade from Windows 7 to XP, you will need to install the OS on a freshly formatted hard disk, thank you very much

Got it, Max.. but how can you install the ISO minus an optical drive? I tried making my USB flash drive bootable using the USB prep8, Bootsec, PeToUSB method after extracting the files from the ISO but it would not recognize that the ISO had Windows XP setup files in it so I couldn’t go further with that. Can you help me please? Thank you.

Hi Rahul, its not easy, it can be done though but i recommend borrowing an external optical drive to make it easier, booting from a USB will result in errors, thank you very much

Can you tell me how to do it through USB please? I’m out of options..
Thank you.

Is this great for gaming… ex Urban Terror
January 16th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
HI Blubber911, i really dont recommend this OS for gaming purposes, thank you very much
January 17th, 2010 at 3:45 am
why do u say that Maxdugan… its smaller than Vista.. i was able to play URT (Urban Terror) on that.. but it was crappy FPS…
January 17th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
Hi blubber911, this is a slimmed-down version of the OS and there might be some components that you might need for gaming (depending on the game) that might be missing, but again there’s no harm in trying, thank you very much
January 24th, 2010 at 3:28 am
blubber911, the FPS was low probably because you ran the game on a netbook. It’s not because of the OS, it’s because of the netbook that was designed for lightweight usage. Otherwise, you are right, it’s faster than Vista hehe xD Did you install the graphic drivers anyway?
